In light of Liverpool’s latest bad results, Jurgen Klopp wanted to reflect on his side’s worst run of the last four years. An honest reaction from him.
It’s no secret that Liverpool isn’t going through their best moment in the last four years, Jurgen Klopp is very aware of it. However, there have been several aspects that brought this club to a moment that was frankly unavoidable. Losing so many key players through injuries has been the pain of Jurgen Klopp’s existence this season. The global pandemic hit Liverpool harder than any other club in English football.
Still, the Reds were able to keep themselves at the top of the table throughout the first half of the current season. But the damage of these absentee players became evident near the end of a forgettable 2020. Regardless of this situation, Klopp did his best to never use this as an excuse and his players always tried to compete against every rival. Now that poor results are coming, the German manager was expecting some harsh criticism from the media.
Klopp understands the bashing against his side.
After confirming he is not expecting new players in the winter transfer window due to the club’s economic situation, Klopp said this about the criticism through Goal: “It’s normal. People in general, everything is massive news or it is not. Every day, every two seconds, there is news outside and you think ‘wow’ and then two minutes later, you get more information. That is how it is. I know much better than you imagine how many bad things happen out there.
“What we try to do, and we do this in positive times as well, is we cut out the outside world when we come together, so we focus and talk only about football. Of course there are much more serious problems out there, but in the moment when we are on the pitch the only problem we can solve, the only thing we have to focus on is the football problem. We have the chance to sort the football problem and that is what we do. We want to get something tomorrow night obviously, and we will try absolutely everything.”
