With Liverpool’s Premier League opener just around the corner, Jordan Henderson is in a race against time to be fit.

Jurgen Klopp has implied that Jordan Henderson could feature in Liverpool’s opening game of the new Premier League season.

The Reds will begin the 2021/22 campaign away to Norwich City on August 14. First though, they must play two more friendlies against Athletic Club this Sunday and Osasuna on Monday.

Henderson, who has just returned to pre-season training following an extended summer break due to his involvement in England’s run to the Euro 2020 final, could get some minutes under his belt in these clashes.

“Hendo trained in Liverpool,” Klopp told the club’s website on his plans for the Liverpool captain.

“We have a meeting on Saturday, it’s all fine and we will see if he plays a few minutes or not.

“I didn’t think about it yet and probably more likely in the second game, but if anybody is worried they choose the wrong game, I couldn’t say which is Team A and which is Team B, to be honest.

“We have only good players here and that’s good. Both line-ups will go for everything, so all fine.”

The Liverpool boss is expected to play the returning Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez once more. Thiago Alcantara is a doubt though, having missed the friendly against Bologna due to a minor injury.
