The Magpies are keen on adding a new midfielder to their ranks in the summer.
Newcastle are reportedly considering a swap deal with Bayern Munich involving Joshua Kimmich and Kieran Trippier.
With Kimmich’s current deal expiring in 2025, a number of elite sides are already preparing to increase the pressure on Bayern to sell him next summer. It seems that Newcastle have come up with a plan that could satisfy both parties and fend off interest from other clubs.
According to the Guardian, Newcastle could allow Kieran Trippier’s exit if they reach an agreement with Bayern to swap him with Kimmich.
One reason for Newcastle’s interest in swap deals is their Financial Fair Play restrictions. The club would need to sell players before being able to complete new signings. Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips is another one of Newcastle’s midfield targets, but completing a swap deal for him looks unrealistic this winter.
In an interview earlier this month, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe admitted that his side are struggling to improve their position in the transfer market.
“I don’t think we have many friends in the market. I’m not sure anyone wants to help us out,” Howe told reporters (via METRO).
In addition to Bayern’s approval, Newcastle need to reach a personal agreement with Kimmich. However, widespread reports in the German media have claimed the midfielder is reluctant to leave Allianz Arena mid-season.
