The Guinea international did not return to the pitch after the break, giving rise to rumors he had suffered yeat another setback.

Jurgen Klopp has calmed fears over Naby Keita’s injury, saying his substitution during Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Norwich was only a precautionary measure.

Keita made his fourth start of the season in Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup fixture but was withdrawn only at half-time.

Liverpool are already thin on midfield options as Thiago Alcantara is nursing a calf issue while Harvey Elliott is expected to remain sidelined for the remainder of the season after a horrible ankle injury.

Keita has struggled for fitness throughout his three-year stay at Anfield, but Klopp subbed him off in the match against Norwich only because he “didn’t want to take any risks.”

“Naby, in the first half, he kicked the grass,” the Liverpool boss told Sky Sports shortly after the final whistle.

“I don’t think it is serious but we didn’t want to take any risks. That’s it.”

Klopp added in his post-match press conference: “We have already two midfielders out and we should make sure that number doesn’t get bigger.

“The start of the season so far was good for the whole squad, but it’s only the start and there is a lot more to come.”
