The Spurs striker did not make the cut even as a substitute for Sunday afternoon’s crunch Premier League clash.

Tottenham will have to make do without captain and star player Harry Kane in their Premier League opener as the player has been left out of the matchday squad to face Manchester City.

Kane’s absence from Tottenham’s 10-man squad list only adds more fuel to the recent speculations heavily linking him with a move away from north London.

The 2020-21 Premier League Golden Boot winner is understood to be in desperate search of pastures new, and sources suggest he has even made his boyhood club aware of his intentions.

Having helped his nation reach the Euro 2020 final earlier this summer, the England international delayed his return to training with Spurs following his holiday. He reported back to duty only last Friday and was available for just two training sessions ahead of Sunday’s crunch clash at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“He needs to work [on his fitness]. He needs to keep on working until he’s ready to help the team,” Nuno Espirito Santo explained Kane’s absence, speaking to Sky Sports ahead of kick-off.

“He doesn’t need too many sessions. He needs to be fit.

“He worked in the morning, I don’t know what he’s going to do [now],” responded Nuno when asked whether the striker would be at the game.
