After Leonardo Bonucci and Merih Demiral, another Bianconeri player has been tested positive for COVID-19 after the international break.

Juventus have announced that Federico Bernardeschi has tested positive for coronavirus.

Bernardeschi, who has been placed in isolation, joins the growing wave of Italy players to be infected by the virus.

A total of six cases had been identified in the Italian national team following the World Cup qualifier matches against Northern Ireland, Bulgaria, and Lithuania in the last two weeks.

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci, Paris Saint-Germain pair Alessandro Florenzi and Marco Verratti, Torino goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu, Freiburg winger Vincenzo Grifo, and Cagliari’s Alessio Crago had all returned positive diagnoses for the widespread virus.

A statement on the club’s official website communicating Bernardeschi’s condition read:

“Juventus Football Club announces that, during the checks provided for by the protocol in force, Federico Bernardeschi tested positive for Covid-19. The footballer is in isolation and asymptomatic.

The club remains in contact with the relevant Health Authorities in implementation of the protocols envisaged to allow training and match activities of the Team Group.”
