The Super League was officially suspended to “reshape the project” after half of its 12 founding members backed out.
Juventus president Andrea Agnelli has admitted that the breakaway Super League can no longer go ahead following the withdrawal of all six Premier League clubs involved.
The Super League hoped to see three more founding members before its launch instead they had a drastic reduction in members just 48 hours after its announcement.
Manchester City announced on Tuesday they have “formally enacted the procedures to withdraw from the group developing plans for a European Super League.”
Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham all subsequently released statements on their respective websites announcing their decisions to back out.
FC Barcelona and Inter Milan are also expected to withdaw, although Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan remain committed to the project it seems.
“To be frank and honest no, evidently that is not the case,” responded Agnelli when asked whether the project could still happen, via BBC.
“I remain convinced of the beauty of that project, of the value that it would have developed to the pyramid, of the creation of the best competition in the world, but evidently no. I don’t think that project is now still up and running.”
