Lyon sporting director Juninho Pernambucano has admitted the club willl do all in their power to bring Benzema back to France.
Benzema joined Lyon as a nine-year old and went on to make his name known across Europe.
The Frenchman grew through the club’s ranks and took Europe by storm with his performances.
Benzema starred with the likes of Michael Essien, Florent Malouda and Juninho himself in what was a successful period for Lyon.
The talented Frenchman was so good at the time he was that he was dubbed the ‘new Zidane’.
In 2009, Madrid was looking for a replacement for Raul and they saw this young 21 year old as a replacement to Raul. Benzema joined Real Madrid for €35m and the rest is history.
At the age of 32 and after many personal and team achievements, the forward could be open to a challenge elsewhere.
Juninho, now sporting director with Lyon, says the club will do what they can to re-sign the Real Madrid star.
“Bringing [Benzema] back for two seasons to play the Champions League with us is a dream of everyone at this club,” Juninho said as quoted by Marca.
“He would be our leader and, in addition to scoring goals, he would give us the experience we need to win games.”
Benzema renewed his contract last season with Real Madrid until 2022 and has severally welcomed the idea of retiring in Spain. A tough but not impossible task Lyon have on their hands.
