For many Man United supporters, Mason Greenwood is amongst the most impressive discoveries of the last decade. Jose Mourinho was already amazed by what the youngster was going at the club’s academy. Now that the Red Devils just signed Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, the AS Roma manager raised a legitimate concern. Alongside the latest arrival, Greenwood, Martial, and Rashford play the same position. But the youngest of them all won’t have an easy path towards a starring role at the club anymore.

Quite the opposite. Mason will now have to compete against everybody else for a single spot within the squad and Mourinho is worried about this. Perhaps moving to a different club will prevent his progression from standing still in the next couple of years. Not allowing Greenwood to continue his growth will be a grave mistake for the England national team. Especially if they want to continue competing for silverware by the end of 2022. Mourinho raised these concerns in a recent column written by him.

Mourinho sees Greenwood and Bellingham’s future.

In a column written by The Times about the England squad’s immediate future, Jose Mourinho was very clear. He is convinced that Mason Greenwood and Jude Bellingham are essential in order to take that step in the right direction. If the Three Lions reached the Euros final this summer, they can go even further in the upcoming FIFA World Cup. In Bellingham’s case, his continuity is safe because he plays for a club that champions young players.

However, Greenwood’s case is far different and more alarming for him. This is what Mourinho wrote about the youngster: “Mason Greenwood was not in the Euros squad but could be there at the next World Cup when he will be much more mature. At Manchester United, they have Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Greenwood. “If one has an amazing season, does that mean another is not starting so many matches?
