During a recent player presentation at FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta sent an ultimatum over Ilaix Moriba’s refusal to renew his contract.

Everything is shaping up to give us a situation between Ilaix Moriba and Barcelona that is eerily similar to Paul Pogba at Manchester United. As one of the most talented youngsters at FC Barcelona, Ilaix Moriba’s current contract is set to expire next year. This means that he needs to sign a new one right now or he might leave for free next season. Initially, the player was apparently open to talk about an ideal negotiation.

But his representatives consider him the second coming of Paul Pogba and they are asking for more money. To be specific, they are asking three times what he makes right now. Considering how difficult the club’s situation is financially, there is no way Joan Laporta will agree to these conditions. But more importantly, Moriba doesn’t realize that this president is nothing like Bartomeu was. Plus, Ilaix forgets FC Barcelona’s specialty is creating world-class midfielders. There will always be a player who can take his position inside the squad.

Laporta wants to make an example out of Moriba.

This is the perfect time for Joan Laporta to send all his youngsters a message. If they start asking for more money without thinking about the club’s prestige, they will be kicked out of the club. Joan Laporta just announced the details of this situation and practically told Ilaix to leave if he doesn’t accept the terms of the agreement. This is what Sport picked up from Laporta about Moriba’s situation: “We will try to make sure that his case is not repeated anymore. He has one year left on his contract and does not want to accept the club’s conditions.

“We do not accept that and we want to send a message to the team. If you do not want to renew, we have other solutions. What we don’t want are players made at La Masia who don’t want to renew. He’s a player we’ve given opportunities, but the club is above all. I would like you [Moriba] to think again. We cannot allow him to be promoted [to the first-team] and then leave. We won’t accept that with any player.”
