During an interview with BTV Esports, Joan Laporta revealed he already had a personal conversation with Leo Messi this week.

Lionel Messi and Joan Laporta have to be one of the most powerful president/player tandems we can remember. Just today, FC Barcelona turns 11 years since they became the greatest football club in a natural year after their Club World Cup triumph in 2009. During that final against Estudiantes, Leo scored the winning goal with his chest in order to make history. Back then, Joan Laporta was the president of the club and everything was happening as he expected.

With the Johan Cruyff football philosophy at the base, the Catalan club found the most success by trusting the ideas of a man who completely revolutionized modern football as we know it. Messi is simply the final product in a long line of experiments that kept trying to replicate this philosophy. People like Joan Laporta understand this way of life in football, which is exactly what attracts Messi.

Laporta finally connected Messi.

Before Joan Laporta announced his candidacy, it was pretty clear that Messi wasn’t happy with his present at the club. However, the announcement brought light to new hopes for the supporters to get their wish with Leo. All they care about is having him retire as a Blaugrana, and that’s why Laporta’s announcement is so important. Up until today, we still hadn’t heard about the possible president contacting Leo.

All of this changed during an interview with BTV Esports, where Laporta said: “I’ve kept a private conversation with Messi. It’s impossible for me to reveal the content of the conversation with Leo, but we did talk about how to uplift the Barcelona supporters’ morale. We are going to make him an offer he considers better for him and leave it on the table.”
