After all the chaos this created, Joan Laporta finally opened up about the European Super League and its recent failure.

Out of all the presidents involved with the European Super League’s creation, Joan Laporta was the only one UEFA doesn’t blame for what happened. Aleksander Ceferin recently stated he understood the Blaugrana president because he feels enormous pressure for the club’s economy. We still didn’t have a clear idea where Laporta stood with all this Super League creation but he finally opened up today.

It happened during an interview with Esport3 where he was questioned about the whole idea. Unsurprisingly, Laporta supports the Super League as long as it’s done correctly. After reading his statements, you might wonder if Ceferin still thinks the same way about the FC Barcelona president.

Laporta explains why he supports the Super League.

In his interview for Esport3, this is what Laporta said: “Our position was cautious. The Super League is a necessity, but the club’s associates will have the last word. The great clubs tend to spend a lot of income and we have a right to have our say on how the budget is divided. This competition needs to be attractive, it needs to be based on sport merit.

“We all defend the state leagues and we are open to an open dialogue with UEFA. All these clubs need more income for this to remain a great show. There has been pressure on some clubs but the proposal is still there. We all make massive investments. All wages are quite high and we need to consider all these aspects as well as all merits based on sports.”
