After Barca’s midweek Champions League exit, the president took to social media to address the fans in a video message.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has promised fans he and the board are working ‘very hard’ to bring in new players, adding that he is certain they will do so.
A 3-0 midweek defeat to Bayern Munich saw Barcelona drop to the Europa League. It was the club’s first Champions League stage exit in 21 years, and a costly one at that. After all, as they do in each season, Barca budgeted to reach the quarter-finals at least. Instead, they didn’t even make the last-16 and lost millions of euros in the process.
The Catalan giants also sit six points outside the top four in La Liga, meaning a spot in next season’s Champions League is by no means guaranteed.
Now, amid the constant flurry of rumors linking the club with new signings and player exits, Laporta has posted a video message on his Twitter account.
Despite the difficulties, we will strengthen the first team. Now more than ever, we have to row in the same direction, and do what's best for Barça. pic.twitter.com/TUbOTd3J21

What did Laporta say?
“I also feel very disappointed by the elimination of the Champions [League],” the president said.
“We all agree that we have to strengthen the first team. The problem is that we have inherited very high contracts of the first team, which don’t give us any salary margin.
“Even so, we are looking for formulas to improve the first team during the winter transfer window.
“We are working very hard to achieve it. And we will.”
Barcelona return to action on Sunday away to Osasuna in La Liga.
