Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher acknowledged Diogo Jota’s abilities and sees him as a potential cover for the Liverpool front three.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher commented that new signing Diogo Jota will be helpful as a cover for Sadio Mane.

The Merseyside club brought in the Portugal international for £41 million from Wolves this summer.

Gradually, Jota’s skills will be helpful to achieve success at Anfield. More so, the 23-year-old brings in an efficient option for Klopp to consider per Goal.

That being said, the striker took no time to display his talent at his new club. He managed to score a goal when he came off the bench, as Liverpool beat Arsenal 3-1.

Carragher believes that the new signing will be essential for Jurgen Klopp. And, that Jota will be judged both on and off the ball.

Carragher told Sky Sports of Jota: “He’s a pressing monster.

“When Liverpool are looking at stats on attacking players, most people probably look at goals and assists. The big thing for Liverpool is pressing from the front.

“Jota has got off to a great start with the goal, but a big part of it will be what he does off the ball and if you don’t do anything off the ball for Liverpool, and even if you’ve got a few goals, Klopp won’t accept it.”

Although, Jota will find it difficult to make it to the starting XI. This is because Liverpool already has quality players in the final third.

Nevertheless, the Portuguese will be a good alternative for Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino. These players can be rested and rotated accordingly.

Carragher added: “Where they needed to strengthen was almost cover for Mane more than anywhere else.

“If Salah is out, you can put Mane on the right. Mane has played up front, Salah has played upfront.

“It wasn’t necessarily a fixed position that they needed, it’s just the rest of them can now move about if Jota comes in on the left – I think that is definitely his strongest position.”

Now that Jota made his appearance as a Liverpool player, he will potentially play against Arsenal on Thursday. The Reds look to gain a place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
