Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish has gotten his first England call-up after Marcus Rashford and Harry Winks pulled out.

Jack Grealish has been rewarded with his long-awaited call-up to the England national team.

The Aston Villa captain was a surprise omission when Gareth Southgate initially named his squad list. Given his performances last season, many questioned Southgate’s midfield options.

England will take on Denmark and Iceland in the upcoming Nations League matches for early September. The latest is that Marcus Rashford and Harry Winks have withdrawn from the squad. Leaving room for Grealish to get in the fold.

The update to the England squad was confirmed on the FA’s official website this afternoon.

Last week, Southgate was questioned on why the Aston Villa men didn’t make the initial cut.

The Three Lions Boss explained it was down to the presence of “incredible players” in the squad already who play in the same position.

The presence of Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford meant there was no room initially for Grealish.

The 24-year-old will now aim to keep a place in the squad and hope it can be permanent.

Grealish continues to be linked with an exit from Aston Villa with the two Manchester sides reportedly keen on his signature.
