A statement from one of the journalists who are closer to Lionel Messi and his family, it appears the Barcelona star is having a change of heart.

Lionel Messi’s history at FC Barcelona is unique and his departure would create pure chaos inside the club. During the whole drama last summer, we could already witness how several supporters invaded Camp Nou stadium demanding Bartomeu’s resignation.

Messi’s only problem at the club of his life is the lack of success in recent years, which is the main reason he wanted to leave. In fact, there has been a flow of information about several clubs doing the impossible to sign Messi. But a new development has been revealed by journalist Veronica Brunati.

This Argentine commentator has been one of Messi’s close contacts and she’s always had the best information about the star. She just confirmed that Leo has been talking to former president Joan Laporta about his desire to remain at the club. A crucial piece of information that basically puts the former president as the frontrunner for the club’s presidency.

Messi might only stay if Laporta wins.

Brunati hinted at the possibility of Leo Messi staying at FC Barcelona if Joan Laporta wins January’s election. If this information is true, the supporters will opt to vote for Laporta with the sole purpose to get Messi to stay.

“I’ve heard that Messi has told Laporta that he wants to stay at the club,” said Brunati on Radio Marca. “This is the information that I have today, but things can change in the case of a week. I know that there’s been contact with Laporta.

“Obviously Leo has to decide whether he wants to go into history as a player who has spent his whole career at a club. Or if he wants to go to another club. In times of COVID, there aren’t many clubs who can take on his wages. Not even a PSG or Manchester City. I hope Leo stays at FC Barcelona, he’s a fantastic player.”
