One of Barcelona’s most successful presidents is set to officially run for re-election as he will announce his candidacy early next week.

FC Barcelona has a bad history with presidents throughout history but there is one who did it all right. After Josep Maria Bartomeu’s resignation last month, the interim board led by Carles Tusquets decided to call for elections at the start of 2020.

Before this, Bartomeu decided to step down as the president in March but the supporters wanted him out as soon as possible. There has never been a more polarizing sitting president before him in Barcelona. In many ways, he profited and got many benefits from one of his predecessors. We are talking about the man who decided to run again for office during the new re-election. It’s evident we are talking about Joan Laporta.

The man who did things right at FC Barcelona and succeeded beyond everybody’s wildest imagination. He is the president who initially decided to shake things up by signing Ronaldinho back in 2003. We are talking about the same man who decided to embrace Johan Cruyff’s school of football and made the club blossom through it.

Laporta’s major ace under his sleeve.

Joan Laporta’s run as the Barcelona president also brought Pep Guardiola to the hot seat at the club as a novice manager with no experience. This was the most important decision during his spell as the leader inside the club due to all the success he got afterward.

With Laporta as the main boss, the Blaugrana lived through the most successful period of their existence without question. This is the reason the supporters are begging for his re-election during the upcoming month of January. The other major candidate is Victor Font but he doesn’t have the people’s trust as Laporta does.

According to Sport, the former president is set to announce a new candidacy for the seat on Monday. However, the biggest news of his announcement is that he will have a top transfer as his major proposal for re-election. Nothing is confirmed yet but Erling Haaland is the man Laporta will go after if he wins the presidency.
