The Gunners have been tipped to make a move for a new striker in 2022.

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin would make a ‘brilliant signing’ for Arsenal, according to John Barnes.

The former Liverpool and England winger thinks Calvert-Lewin has the credentials to fit the bill at the Emirates, although he concedes the 24-year-old still needs to add consistency to his game.

As Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are expected to leave in 2022, Arsenal have been scouting potential replacements for the forwards.

Barnes backs Calvert-Lewin approach

“Arsenal have been linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin which would be a good signing for them,” Barnes told Bonus Code Bets.

“He’s young, English, shows good commitment and effort, but he is currently an Everton player and right now, he won’t want to leave there.

“The Everton fans love him, he’s doing well there, and he needs to show that level of consistency for club and country before he can think about moving to one of the bigger clubs.

“Realistically he hasn’t done a lot for Everton to even talk about him warranting a move. However, if he was to go to Arsenal, it would be a brilliant signing for both parties, especially Arsenal.”

Which other strikers are on Arsenal’s radar?

Reports have backed up Barnes’ suggestion that Calvert-Lewin is a player of interest to the Gunners, but he isn’t the only attacker on their radar.

Mikel Arteta’s side also reportedly have eyes on Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic and Sevilla forward Youssef En-Nesyri. That said, they’re unlikely to target a new frontman until the summer.

Arsenal return to action next Saturday at home to league leaders Manchester City after Tuesday’s trip to Wolves was postponed because of more positive COVID-19 cases.
