The Nerazzurri put a major dent in the Bianconeri’s title defense hopes while going level on points with the table-toppers on Sunday.
Arturo Vidal insists Inter Milan ‘proved’ their Scudetto credentials by putting reigning champions Juventus to the sword.
Vidal opened the scoring against his former team, headed in an inviting Nicola Barella cross, before Barella scored one of his own after latching onto a spectacular Alessandro Bastoni long pass.
Inter ran out 2-0 winners against Juve at San Siro, but the scoreline could have been much worse for the visitors as Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku missed a couple of good opportunities.
It was the first time since September 2016 that the Nerazzurri beat the Bianconeri in Serie A and the first time they won with a clean sheet since April 2010.
Apart from establishing a seven-point gap over Juventus, Antonio Conte’s men moved level with league leaders AC Milan on 40 points.
“It’s important for me, for the team, it was a very difficult game against the best team in Italy,” Vidal told Sky Sport Italia after the full-time whistle.
“I am glad to have scored my first goal for Inter, very happy. I think we proved today that we are up to the task of challenging for the Scudetto.
“This gives us the confidence to keep pushing, to believe we can win the Scudetto, as we beat the strongest team over the last nine years. We believe that we can go all the way.”
