Ahead of the clash between Inter and Juventus, Roberto Boninsegna shared his thoughts on Ronaldo’s importance.
Cristiano Ronaldo is about to turn 36-years-old and some have started to question if he can remain a top player. The latest doubter is none other than Roberto Boninsegna, an Italian forward who spent seven-year at Inter and three at Juventus. Naturally, with the 77-year-old’s track record, he was asked to comment on the upcoming Serie A clash between his former teams.
It is no surprise that Ronaldo and Lukaku became the poster boys for this Sunday’s fixture. However, the surprise came as Boninsegna was asked to give his opinion on both strikers.
“The only Inter player who made things difficult for the Fiorentina defense was Romelu Lukaku, who had just returned,” Boninsegna told Tutto Juve as per Marca.
“Beautiful duo, Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo. I think Lukaku is a more decisive player. [It’s] indisputable. Cristiano Ronaldo was a great player, but I think he’s declining a little bit.”
Regardless of the former player’s opinion, the statistics don’t lie. Ronaldo has scored 15 goals on 13 appearances for the Bianconeri this season. In fact, the Portuguese star currently holds the top spot for Serie A’s leading goalscorers. On the other hand, Romelu Lukaku is also having a fantastic season with 12 goals scored in 16 games.
