Inter Milan and the representatives of Lautaro Martinez have scheduled a meeting for tomorrow to discuss the player’s future.

Martinez has emerged as Barcelona’s prime objective for the summer. Before the coronavirus lockdown put the squeeze on Barca’s finances, they seemed to be on the verge of striking a deal with the player.

Widely-considered as one of the most exciting up-and-coming forwards in Europe’s top-five leagues, the 23-year-old has been nothing short of outstanding since joining Inter in 2018.

Only last season, Lautaro registered 21 assists and seven assists in 49 appearances across all competitions. Martinez’s reputation as a lethal forward precedes him.

The Catalans see him as a natural heir for outgoing Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan is likely to move on before the deadline passes.

Therefore, Ronald Koeman wants to bring in a prolific forward to keep his squad competitive for the upcoming season.

However, Inter Milan are confident of keeping hold of Martinez. The Nerazzurri have scheduled a meeting with their star’s entourages to discuss their options.

According to Football-Italia, talks between the parties will take place on Monday.

Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti has already pinpointed the club’s determination to fend off Barcelona’s approach for their headline performer.

“At the moment, there are no negotiations between Inter and Barcelona,” he said.

“We’re happy with him and I know he’s happy here too. He knows that he’s at a great club and that he’s improving a lot thanks to the coach [Antonio Conte].”

Martinez played a key role in Conte’s tactical set-up last season, forming a formidable attacking partnership with Romelu Lukaku.
