Anthony Martial is pleased with himself after playing a key role in France’s convincing victory against Croatia in the Nations League.

Anthony Martial was handed his first start for France on Tuesday night after being called-up for the first time since March 2018 by head coach Didier Deschamps.

Martial enjoyed an excellent 2019/20 season with Manchester United as he scored 17 goals and set up 7 more in the league to help secure Champions League qualification for them.

Deschamps’s faith was repaid as the 24-year old striker guided the team to a 4-2 victory over Croatia.

Martial remained a threat for the opposition defense throughout the match, provided an assist for Antoine Griezmann to level things up for his side before forcing an own goal from Dominik Livakovic to hand France the lead before half-time.

“It’s been a long time since I played for France and it was important to me to have a good match,” he said after the match, speaking to TF1.

“I managed to score and provide an assist. We won and I’m very happy.

“It was a bit complicated in the front three at the start because we didn’t have the ball, but as soon as we managed to combine, we knew how to put them in danger. The victory was great. We scored points and that’s important.”
