A versatile and reliable player admits the time to bid teammates at Allianz Arena farewell is approaching after nine long years.

Javi Martinez has publicized his desire to ‘try something new’ after spending about two-third of his senior playing career at Bayern Munich.

The Spaniard has crossed the 250-appearances mark across all competitions for the German side ever since joining them from Athletic Bilbao.

A wealth of success has come his way, with the 32-year-old winning eight Bundesliga titles, two Champions League trophies, and numerous other major honors during his stay at the Allianz Arena so far.

Martinez has entered the final few months of his Bayern contract and he is expected not to extend his stay any further.

“This is not the moment to discuss what will happen in June 2021,” he responded when asked about his future ahead of the Champions League meeting with Atletico Madrid on Goal.

“Anything can happen. I had great years here and we will see what happens

“I would like to try something new, no matter where, but something new before I end my career.

“The contract says it is the last year. I am happy to be here now and I am part of the team and that is what is important.”

Martinez remains an important member of Hansi Flick’s squad, having made 14 appearances in 2020/21.
