According to a report, Bayern Munich’s David Alaba is set to enter talks with a named Premier League side in January.

Chelsea are reportedly in the running for David Alaba and the Blues will make a move for his services at the turn of the year.

The Bayern Munich star will enter the final six months of his contract in January, meaning he will be free to speak with other clubs and sign a pre-contract agreement.

Alaba could yet follow in the footsteps of former teammate Thiago Alcantara by moving on at the end of his current deal.

The 28-year-old has won two Champions League titles during his 12-year stay in Bavaria but now feels the time is right for a new challenge. Contract talks over a renewal with Bayern are said to have been initiated but broke down in the midst of it all.

Alaba has attracted interest from Liverpool and Manchester City in the past but it now appears Chelsea could be the frontrunners for his signature.

According to Bild’s Christian Falk, the Blues are set to sit down with the player’s agent Pini Zahavi in January, with contract talks penciled in.

Signing a player of Alaba’s quality and experience could prove to be a major steal for Frank Lampard.

The Austrian defender is also versatile and can play on the flanks or in the heart of defense.

It remains to be seen if other clubs will step up their interest in Alaba over the coming weeks as well.
