Zlatan Ibrahimovic is reportedly on the verge of extending his contract with AC Milan for another season.

Ibrahimovic re-signed for Milan in December 2019 and has since helped the club rediscover its previous highs.

The 39-year-old scored ten goals and provided five assists back in 2019/20 before putting pen to paper on a new one-year deal.

However, Zlatan’s influence on the Rossoneri has forced the club’s hand, as they now consider handing the prolific striker a fresh contract.

According to the Football-Italia, Milan are ready to offer Ibrahimovic a new deal that would tie him down to the San Siro until 2022.

Led by their talisman, the resurgent Serie A giants have won all of their opening four league matches and secured the Europa League group stage berth.

There’s a genuine feeling that Milan have not come so close to returning in contention for a top-four finish in Serie A as they are with Zlatan.

Additionally, keeping the former Los Angeles Galaxy superstar may also help Stefano Pioli’s side lure Gianluigi Donnarumma into committing to fresh terms.

The Italian goalkeeper has entered the final year of his contract in Lombardy and has yet to pledge his long-term future to the red-black shirt.

Donnarumma’s agent Mino Raiola is trying to force Milan to include a relatively small release clause into the new deal.

Such a prospect has been deemed unacceptable by Paolo Maldini and co. and is the reason why negotiations have hit a stalemate.
