In a recent interview for ICON Magazine, a Real Madrid star just confessed how happy he was when he played next to Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Cristiano Ronaldo days at Real Madrid will remain as some of the most memorable in the club’s history. He made all his teammates better and helped them win many important trophies over 9 seasons. But all great things eventually come to an end. Out of all the great players who shared the stage with him, Karim Benzema stands out as the perfect partner for the Portuguese legend. During their time together, they produced incredible football that the supporters will never forget.

Despite wearing the club’s number ‘9’ jersey, Benzema played as a number ‘10’ when Ronaldo was around him. The one who scored the most goals was always Cristiano and Karim set them up for him. In a recent interview, the French forward opened up about the shock of playing a different position now that Ronaldo is no longer around. Karim transformed into a proper striker as he took on the club’s goal-scoring responsibilities.

Benzema describes why Ronaldo made him happy.

During this interview for ICON Magazine, Karim Benzema revealed the reason he was so happy playing next to Cristiano Ronaldo: “I was very happy with Cristiano. All I would say is that his departure allowed me to play a different role in the club. He was scoring 50 or 60 goals per season and we all needed to adapt to his game.

“Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world. Zidane is like a brother to me. Off the pitch, he is always there to give me the best advice. I don’t really have any idols but I do have role models. In football, I would say Brazilian Ronaldo was a role model for me. I also admire Mike Tyson because we both came from the bottom up. Nobody ever gave us anything for free.”
