David de Gea feels he has built a good reputation over the past few years and is unthreatened over his place in the Manchester United team.

A string of poor displays with high profile mistakes has seen Manchester United’s David de Gea become a subject of heavy criticism.

Twice did Ole Gunnar Solskjaer give De Gea the nod ahead of Sergio Romero and both times his decision resulted in disappointment. First was the FA Cup defeat to Chelsea and the second came against Sevilla in the Europa League, both at the semi-finals stage. Solskjaer, as a result, has also come under scrutiny.

There have been calls to install Dean Henderson, who impressed during his loan spell at Sheffield United last season, as the first-choice goalkeeper.

Henderson has returned to Old Trafford but will reportedly only stay put if guaranteed a starting role.

De Gea, though, has faith in himself and is confident he can keep his place between the sticks next season.

“I trust in myself,” he said, according to ESPN. “I’ve shown my qualities over the years, so I just keep myself available for the manager.

“I’m always ready to play and try to help the team as usual, as I’ve always done.”
