Ace Football takes a look at how Manchester United could line-up after striking big at the last minute by signing two big-name stars.
Manchester United seemed set to land just one marquee signing in the summer transfer window in Donny van de Beek. Things appeared to be going nowhere, with the club losing valuable time on trying to sign Jadon Sancho.
Then, in the dying stages of Monday’s transfer deadline day, the Red Devils finally made some signings in Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles, Amad Diallo Traore, and Facundo Pellistri.
The first two, in particular, couldn’t have come soon enough for United after Sunday’s 6-1 home defeat to Tottenham. As Gary Neville pointed out, there was ‘no excuse’ for that shambolic display.
The first deal to be announced was Telles on a four-year contract from FC Porto for a transfer fee worth €15m. The Brazilian is set to rival Luke Shaw for the left-back spot in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s line-up.
Then, with an hour left of the transfer window, the one every United fan was awaiting came through in Cavani.
The Uruguayan striker, who scored a club-record 200 goals in 301 games for Paris Saint-Germain, completed a free transfer by signing a one-year deal with an option to extend it by a further 12 months.
‘El Matador’ (‘The Bullfighter’) has been one of the best attackers in the last decade, having won the Ligue 1 and Serie A Golden Boot awards in his career. Seeing him line-up with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Mason Greenwood at United should be a mouth-watering prospect.
So here on Ace Football, we’ve taken a look at how Ole could change his line-up with his two new star recruits in a 4-2-3-1 formation
