The World Cup winner is expected to play a crucial role in Inter’s backline.
Inter are on the verge of completing a move for Benjamin Pavard. After a lengthy transfer saga, Bayern Munich have finally greenlighted Pavard’s exit, with the Frenchman preparing to join Inter on a five-year deal.
Let’s check out how Inter can line up with Pavard in their ranks.
A solid back-three
Pavard is an ideal addition to Simone Inzaghi’s three-man backline at Inter. The Frenchman’s fantastic versatility allowed him to play both as a centre-back and a right-back at Bayern. But his most efficient position is on the right-hand side of a back-three defensive setup.
Pavard’s former Bayern Munich teammate, Yann Sommer, is Inter’s new No.1 goalkeeper. He will play behind Pavard, Stefan De Vrij, and Alessandro Bastoni as the team’s three centre-backs.
Hakan Çalhanoğlu is expected to continue his role at the heart of Inter’s midfield line, playing alongside Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Nicolo Barella.
Both Federico Dimarco and Denzel Dumfries will continue their roles on the left and right channels of Inter’s midfield line. Pavard’s ball-playing abilities will provide Dumfries with more space to rush forward during the attacking phases of the game.
Up front, Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram will form Inter’s attacking duo. The Nerazzurri are also linked with a move for Alexis Sanchez, who would help Inter maintain their squad depth after Edin Dzeko’s departure.
Inter XI: Sommer, Pavard, De Vrij, Bastoni, Dimarco, Dumfries, Barella, Mkhitaryan, Çalhanoğlu, Martinez, Thuram.
