Tension ran high between Pep Guardiola and his opposite number during Wednesday night’s clash, and the latter did not take it lightly.

Manchester City did manage to snatch all three points in their Champions League group stage opener but contrary to what the scoreline would suggest, they had to fight hard for it.

The Sky Blues found themselves trailing just after the first 14 minutes. However, it was not long before they found the equalizer as Sergio Aguero drilled home a low show from the spot at the 20-minute mark.

Ilkay Gundogan and Ferran Torres then scored one each in the second half to claim a 3-1 win for their side.

It was a match filled with controversies, with the first one being the penalty awarded to the home side. It was claimed that a City played had stepped on the Porto goalkeeper in the build-up and hence the spot-kick decision should have been overturned by VAR.

Other contentious moments include free-kick, using which Gundogan put gave his side the lead, shouldn’t have been given while a penalty should have been awarded to for a push on Pepe.

Porto head coach Sergio Conceicao hence was left fuming at the match officials and even had a brief dispute with Pep Guardiola on the touchline.

“I’ve got a lot to learn from Pep Guardiola, in the way he pressures referees, talks to opposition players, and opposition dugout. He’s a fantastic example. I have to learn this,” Conceicao told reporters, via Goal.

“He spoke about our country using ugly words. Guardiola’s attitude was extremely unpleasant.

“The whole Manchester City dugout was because if anybody should have been complaining, it was the Porto bench, because we were extremely hard done by.”
