It’s time to tell you all about the player ratings of the Manchester City vs Porto Champions League match at Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City had a difficult test against FC Porto at Etihad Stadium for the Champions League opener. Pep Guardiola needed a victory in order to instill confidence amongst his players and the club’s board of directors. However, the Catalan manager previously spoke about how important Porto’s recent work has been.

The first half gave us another spot-on analysis from Pep, especially after Diaz’s solo goal that gave the visiting squad an early lead. City attempted to come back from that initial setback, they managed to pull one back through Sergio Aguero’s penalty after a Pepe foul inside the box. Despite the result, Guardiola wasn’t happy with the team’s first-half performance.

Manchester City revives in the second half.

After the break, you could see Guardiola’s resolve after one of his legendary half-time scaldings. The players immediately responded and things started working in Manchester City’s favor. Less than 20 minutes into the second half, Ilkay Gundogan scored his side’s second goal with a beautiful free-kick attempt. Nearly 10 minutes later, Guardiola’s modifications did wonders to the squad’s offensive prowess.

Phil Foden shared a magical moment with Ferran Torres for the Citizens’ third goal of the evening. The game did get a little out of hand on Pepe’s side, the Portuguese defender lost the plot a bit with Raheem Sterling. We could even see Pep Guardiola going at it with Sergio Conçeiçao. A positive result for Pep’s boys against a very difficult rival.
