Los Blancos slipping up several times in their title defense so far has seen fingers questions raised over their head coach’s ability.

Iker Casillas has brought up Zinedine Zidane’s past accomplishments to prove his point that it’s ‘unfair’ to point fingers at his former teammate.

Zidane has helped Real Madrid land a pair of La Liga crowns in his two separate stints in 2016/17 and 2019/20.

Under his guidance, Los Blancos conquered Europe three times in succession, becoming the first and only team to achieve the incredible Champions League feat.

However, the legendary Frenchman’s position has under pressure this season due to the team’s domestic and European struggles.

The record winners of the competition came very close to an embarrassing early exit from the Champions League, and questions have been raised whether Zidane is still the right man to keep Real Madrid in contention for major honors.

“Let’s start from the point that Real Madrid is always a target for criticism,” Casillas told The National. “Right now, this is a bit out of place because it’s not a catastrophe; it’s not until May that competitions are decided.

“The criticism Zidane has been receiving has also been unfair because he’s been a very good coach and he’s earned his right to lose. He’s won three Champions Leagues, two leagues in Spain and he’s doing a great job. So I don’t think we can demand a lot more from him.

“He’s giving that continuity that’s really important for the team.”
