An El Clasico Spanish Super Cup final could be expected after the Catalans avoided fierce rivals Los Blancos in the semi-finals.

The result of the draw for the semi-finals of the 2020 edition of the Supercopa de Espana has been announced.

FC Barcelona are set to play Real Sociedad while Real Madrid have been drawn against Athletic Club.

The first of those fixtures will be played on January 13th at Estadio Nuevo Arcangel in Cordoba and the second one on January 14th at La Rosaleda in Malaga.

La Cartuja in Sevilla is set to host this year’s Supercopa de Espana final on January 17th. An El Clasico or a Basque derby – or neither – can be expected in the final.

Barca have tested themselves against Sociedad already this season and came 2-1 on top in Wednesday night’s La Liga outing.

Real Madrid have also faced Bilbao once this season with the defending Spanish champions emerging 3-1 victorious.

The draw, which took place between the top two finishers in La Liga in 2019/20 and the Copa del Rey finalists, was carried out at the headquarters of the Spanish FA on Thursday afternoon.

The Copa del Rey final between Sociedad and Bilbao, though, was postponed and is yet to be contested.
