Jurgen Klopp is hoping Kostas Tsimikas can provide the much-needed competition and support for Andy Robertson.
Liverpool snapped up Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos last week for a fee of around €13 million.
Tsimikas enjoyed a standout campaign with the Greek giants last season, helping them to title success. His presence saw the team will all their games but one in the Greek Super League.
He will now be expected to maintain his performance levels in his new colors as Liverpool aim to defend their Premier League title.
Acting as a back-up left-back, the 24-year old will provide some relaxation time for Andy Robertson, who played 49 matches across all competition in the 2019/20 season.
Jurgen Klopp sees the new signing as an essential addition to his squad as he prepares for what will be a quite challenging season.
“Kostas is a signing which just shows what we are looking for, what we need,” Klopp told the official club website.
“Robbo and Trent, let’s say, they cannot play every season 50-something games – it would limit their careers, to be honest, even when they come through. So I’m really happy that we got this proper option and he is a proper option.
“He’s a super guy, a very confident boy, cheeky and if you want, watch him on YouTube – probably most of our supporters did that already. I would say quite exciting.”
