The Sky Blues are in search of a successor to the aging Aguero, and the Southampton striker has been suggested as an option.

Manchester City have been backed in their pursuit of Danny Ings by former Premier League striker Darren Bent, who believes Ings would score more goals for City than Gabriel Jesus.

Signing a striker is supposedly a priority for Man City in the upcoming summer transfer window. Not only is Sergio Aguero not getting any younger, but he is also in the final months of his contract.

It has been reported that Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland is their ideal signing but his massive price tag and intense transfer competitions are stumbling blocks.

Ings, who has scored nine goals this term, meanwhile, would be available on a cut-price deal as he is about to enter the final year of his Southampton contract.

Bent told talkSPORT: “If you’re talking about someone replacing Aguero, it’s virtually impossible, you’re not going to find someone who can come in and do what he has done at that club.

“But I really like the idea of Danny Ings going there, I think he’s a very very good center-forward and he’s been brilliant over the last couple of seasons.

“You put him around better players who create so many opportunities, he is an unbelievable finisher, really really good finisher, so if you put him in situations where he can score goals I can guarantee you he’d score more goals in that team than Gabriel Jesus.

“He’s a proven goalscorer in the Premier League and if I was at Man City, I’d get him in now, get someone like him in the door for decent money, and then go after your Haalands or your Mbappes.”
