The Argentine was the star of the show as the Ligue 1 champions cruised their way to the semi-finals of the French Cup.
Mauro Icardi was thrilled to score a hat-trick for Paris Saint Germain during what he admits to being a “complicated” season for him.
Icardi opened the scoring at the nine-minute mark for his side before an own goal from Vincent Manceau and a strike from Neymar increased PSG’s advantage against Angers in the Coupe de France quarter-finals. The striker then added two more to complete his hat-trick and seal a dominating 5-0 win for his side.
Fitness issues and intense competition have prevented the former Inter Milan man to enjoy consistent minutes on the pitch this season. He has been limited to just 14 starts in all competitions in 2020-21.
“I think the team played a really good game. We started in the best possible way to win and advance to the semi-final,” Icardi told Eurosport 2 post-match.
“We have a large squad where everyone must be ready to play each game. This is the strength of this team: We are ready when we need to be.
“This year has been complicated for me but I have come back, I am well, in good shape and I want to give my best so that my coach can play me as much as possible.
“I am very happy with my hat-trick this evening and I am very happy with the congratulations from my teammates.”
