The Three Lions skipper is adamant the scoreline doesn’t tell the full story of their Nations League loss to Belgium.

Harry Kane is adamant that England were the ‘dominant’ side in Sunday’s 2-0 Nations League defeat against Belgium and were ‘unlucky’ to concede the two goals which led to their demise in the competition.

Youri Tielemans and Dries Mertens scored in the first-half to hand Belgium control. The hosts proceeded to keep England at bay, despite the visitors enjoying the bulk of possession and goal attempts.

Gareth Southgate’s men, in fact, spend most of the second period inside Belgium’s half attempting to find a way back into the game.

But they were unable to bring themselves back into contention and, therefore, suffered a group-stage exit from the competition. Only Belgium or Denmark can finish top of Group A2 now for a spot in the finals.

“We were dominant. We were unlucky to concede the two goals,” said England captain Kane as quoted by BBC.

“A deflection and I don’t think the second was a free-kick. A lot of positives to take but it will give us confidence. If we play like this going forward, we will win the majority of games for sure.

“Jack Grealish is a fantastic player. You can see his qualities on the ball. I am sure he will get plenty of opportunities in an England shirt.

“We haven’t won a major trophy for a long time, and that gives us a major carrot. With the squad we have and the players we have, we have to have full belief.”

Kane and England will have one last Nations League game against Iceland at Wembley on Wednesday before the international break ends.
