Harry Kane has denied that he refused to report back to Tottenham training earlier this week and claims he plans to return on Saturday.

It’s been reported the 28-year-old skipped training during the week in an alleged attempt to force a move away from Spurs, who rejected a £100 million bid from Manchester City in June.

Kane’s absence was first noted on Monday, but he took to social media on Friday to explain the plan was always to return to Saturday.

“It’s almost 10 years since I made my Spurs debut. For every one of those years, you – the fans – have shown me total support and love,” he posted on Instagram.

“That’s why it hurts to read some of the comments that have been made this week, questioning my professionalism.

“While I won’t go into the specifics of the situation, I want to clarify that I would never, and have never, refused to train. I will be returning to the club tomorrow, as planned.

“I wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize the relationship I have with the fans who have given me such unwavering support during my time with the club. This has always been the case as it is today.”

What did Spurs have to say?

The Lilywhites, unlike Kane, have issued no public statement on claims that the striker skipped training.

Reports alleged Spurs expected Kane back on Monday for a series of tests involving his fitness and a routine COVID-19 check. He was supposed to rejoin the squad for training on Tuesday.

The only word to come out of the club so far came on Tuesday when Nuno Espirito Santo stated the issue would be handled internally.

The Spurs manager said: “We have to solve the situation internally with the club speaking and trying to reach a better solution and conclusion.”
