Winning trophies for Inter has long been Samir Handanovic’s ambition and he is rejoicing at the opportunity of picking up his first one.

Samir Handanovic jumped ship from Udinese to Inter Milan in a transfer worth around €20 million in the summer of 2012.

The Slovenian shot-stopper has since been one of Inter’s most reliable players through thick and thin, making well over 300 appearances across all competitions so far.

He has also been honored with a few personal accolades for his exploits, with inclusion in Serie A Team of the Year twice and getting named the 2018/20 Lega Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year.

But his eight-year spell at the club so far has been completely dry in terms of collective success.

However, the 36-year now has a chance to finally end the trophy drought as Inter are set to play Sevilla in the final of the Europa League.

“When I arrived, I always aimed to play for trophies,” Handanovic said, according to Football Italia. “At last, we can fight for something important, this must be a starting point.

“It must become a habit, like 10 to 15 years ago. Inter always played for the Scudetto and the cups.

“Now we have reached the point where we can play for something important and I’m proud to be here today. From day one, I wanted to win.”
