The Atletico Madrid star weighed in his verdict on one of football’s biggest new debates between Haaland and Mbappe.
Luis Suarez rates Erling Haaland a “bit more” than Kylian Mbappe and backed the Norwegian to mark a new era in football.
As Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo enter their twilight years, attention turns to who could succeed the pair as the ruling forces in football. The current favorites are Mbappe and Haaland.
The young strikers have made blistering starts to their respective careers and appear to have developed a bubbling rivalry. Haaland even admitted Mbappe’s hat-trick against Barcelona last month motivated him.
The Borussia Dortmund striker has been outstanding all season, scoring 33 goals in only 31 appearances across all competitions. He is also the Champions League’s top-scorer on 10 goals in six games.
“Haaland is a great player, he’s at a spectacular level, he has an admirable physical strength,” Suarez told RAC1 journalist Gerard Romero on Twitch.
“He’s one of the best number nines in the world and will define an era.
“I’m a bit more in favour of Haaland, but Mbappe is at a great level.”
Suarez’s former club Barcelona and Real Madrid are both reportedly keen on signing the ex-Salzburg striker in the summer.
He has, however, insisted his focus lies on his self-development rather than dwelling on the transfer rumors.
