Real Madrid want both players, but Zidane may only be able to sign one at best – so who should it be? Valdano gives his verdict.
Real Madrid should make signing Erling Haaland a bigger priority over Kylian Mbappe, says Jorge Valdano, who thinks the Borussia Dortmund star is the better goalscorer out of the pair.
The forwards are two of the most exciting young footballers on the planet. They have enjoyed tremendous success in their brief careers so far, with Mbappe already a World Cup and four-time Ligue 1 winner. Haaland, on the other hand, has left a red-hot trail in his wake over the past year upon smashing home the goals at an almost never-ending rate.
So for a big club like Real Madrid, who pride themselves on owning the biggest talents, it’s no surprise to hear of their interest.
But the COVID-19 pandemic, like any other club, has hit the Spanish giants hard financially. Therefore, if they are to chase a superstar signing in the summer, only one of the two strikers could arrive in the Spanish capital – so who should be the priority?
“I would sign Haaland before Mbappe,” former Los Blancos forward and manager Valdano told Onda Cero.
“He moves in small and large spaces, he scores with great regularity.
“I understand that Mbappe is a star, but I’m very impressed with Haaland. He scores goals of all types.”
So there you have it, Haaland should be Real Madrid’s priority signing.
