The Super Eagles end the group stage with a perfect record of three wins.
Nigeria defeated Guinea-Bissau 2-0 in their Africa Cup of Nations game on Wednesday. The Super Eagles qualified as the group leaders while Guinea-Bissau crashed out of the tournament.
Nigeria are on FIRE 🔥
Nigeria came into the game on the back of their victories over Egypt and Sudan. Despite having already qualified for the next round, the Super Eagles had the group’s top spot to fight for.
Following a quiet first half, Nigeria broke the deadlock only ten minutes into the second period. Kelechi Iheanacho provided an inch-perfect assist for Umar Sadiq, who then smashed the ball into the bottom-left corner of the net.
Guinea-Bissau showed more courage after conceding the opener, but Nigeria soon punished them for their open play. Moses Simon hit the crossbar after making a swift run into Guinea-Bissau’s box. The rebound found William Troost Ekong, who nodded the ball home from close range as soon as he received it.
The Super Eagles had several more chances to extend their lead after the second goal. However, they settled for a 2-0 win that secured their place on top of the Group D table. Augustine Eguavoen’s side are the only team in AFCON who have finished the group stage with three victories.
Elsewhere in the group, Egypt defeated Sudan to secure their second spot behind Nigeria. Sudan and Guinea Bissau crashed out of the competition as they finished third and fourth, respectively.
