Matteo Guendouzi has turned down three offers from foreign clubs in order to force his stay at Arsenal, reports say.
Guendouzi has fallen out of the picture at the Emirates after having a falling out with Mikel Arteta. The Frenchman’s career at Arsenal has fallen apart since the infamous clash against Brighton’s Neal Maupay.
Having been frozen out of the squad since June, the 21-year-old midfielder is expected to move on in the summer.
Guendouzi regularly featured for the Gunners during Unai Emery’s tenure in north London. However, his indispensability at the club has taken a downward curve under Arteta.
The £7million acquisition has found his situation at Arsenal untenable lately. As a consequence, a summer departure is well on the cards.
But, Guendozui’s mind is yet to be made up over the prospect of saying goodbye to the resurgent giants.
Adding to this sentiment, ESPN state Atalanta, Valencia, and Villarreal have all seen their approaches knocked back by the ex-Lorient youngster.
Unai Emery, who was the one to bring Guendouzi to Arsenal, is now keen to take him to Villarreal.
The Spaniard recently replaced Javier Calleja at the helm of the La Liga side and has immediately identified the gifted midfielder as his top target.
Sevilla are also in the race. Los Rojiblancos sporting director Monchi, who had figured for the Arsenal job before the appointment of Edu, is monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are trying to include their outcast in a deal to bring Lyon’s Houssem Aouar to the Premier League. But, Les Gones stand firmly against any swap deals for their prized asset.
Paris Saint-Germain, who also emerged as potential suitors for Guendouzi, have cooled down their interest. Thomas Tuchel has categorically denied the ambition to land the young Frenchman.
