The Gunners are just five points off the drop zone after a dismal start to the season and it appears their boss is on borrowed time.

Pep Guardiola insists Arsenal must keep faith in Mikel Arteta as he believes his former assistant is well capable of turning the struggling team’s fortunes around.

Arsenal are off to their worst ever start in the Premier League in almost four decades, having been able to pick up a mere 13 points from their opening 12 matches.

A 1-0 loss against Burnley saw them suffer a fourth straight home defeat in the league, and this dreadful form has left them deep down the table at the 15th position.

Meanwhile, team talisman and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s productivity has also significantly dropped this season with just two goals in 12 league outings so far.

The Gunners won an FA Cup in Mikel Arteta’s first season in charge but a sharp decline of late has seen massive pressure build on the manager.

Arteta carries the risk of losing his job, but Pep Guardiola firmly believes his former assistant is the right man to take forward the rebuilding process at the Emirates.

“Arsenal doesn’t have a manager to lead this club in the next years better than him. I don’t have to give my support, because he has it and knows he has it,” Guardiola told reporters, via Daily Mail.

“He is one of the best managers I ever worked with, of course, and seen directly – for his personality, his commitment, his love for his club. Without his love for his club, he still would be here.

“I’m pretty sure he will turn it over and do it like everyone expects. Sometimes when a club comes from not a good period, it needs time. I know in this world, [people think] it doesn’t need time.

“If I was part of the board at Arsenal, I would not have any doubts about his quality and capacity to put Arsenal in the place that Arsenal deserves to be.”
