Ahead of the upcoming challenges, Pep Guardiola wanted to remind his players that they shouldn’t feel overconfident right now.

There are many stories that Pep Guardiola wants to avoid with his players getting overconfident, they can lose titles like this. In previous years and other tournaments, there is always that cautionary tale of a club that took it too far. They make a wonderful first half of the season run and suddenly crumble apart. The key moment is right after the first international break of the new year, which is when many players get injured.

If Manchester City gets past this threshold, there’s a good chance they will finish the season with many chances of winning all the trophies. But Guardiola wants to take things step by step, he doesn’t want his players to get distracted. In fact, he just rejected Carlo Ancelotti’s claim about Man City as the top title contender because he wants his players to focus as much as possible.

Guardiola rejects championship talk.

“I appreciate it but I don’t agree with him,” Guardiola told reporters via Manchester Evening News. “We can lose because the opponents are good. I love Carlo. He is an inspiration for me. But I don’t agree with him. Ten days have changed everything. But we still have 42 points to play for. We have to focus on the next game and not listen to what people say. We are in February. It is still not spring and you win titles in summertime.

“There are a lot of games to come. In 10 days everything can change here. If we lost at Anfield days ago we were four points behind Liverpool. We are now at 16. My perception is that everything changes in a short time. Spring has not yet arrived, and titles are won in summer. Nobody becomes a champion in the winter. So my advice to the players is not to listen too much, and let’s keep working.”
