Ahead of Everton’s mid-week match against Manchester City, Carlo Ancelotti revealed he isn’t too worried about the game’s result.

Tomorrow, we are getting a game between Carlo Ancelotti’s Everon and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. The Premier League continues during the mid-week activity between both sides at Goodison Park. Carlo doesn’t have much to lose in a season where he’s been delivering great results despite the many competitive rivals. He knows the Toffees won’t likely win the title but he still has high hopes to make a Top Four finish with the players he has.

However, playing against the most dominant club in the Premier League is not a major issue for the Italian manager because he knows the fight is somewhere else. If Everton loses this match, it won’t really hurt their goal to get that Top Four finish by the end of the season. All Ancelotti cares about is making his players earn more confidence for the games that matter the most. If a victory comes against City, he will be pleased about it.

What matters to Carlo the most?

This doesn’t mean Everton won’t go after the victory against Manchester City tomorrow. They are playing at Goodison Park after all, their intention is to defend their own turf no matter what. But Ancelotti has always been a pragmatic man who knows exactly how the world works. Playing against the most dominant squad in Europe right now means they will probably not win the match.

Obsessing about a victory is not part of Ancelotti’s everyday thinking, as he told the press through the club’s website: “I think that the games against City are not going to decide our ambition. Our ambition is still the same, to reach Europe at the end of the season. It does not matter what happens against City. It is easier to think that we are going to lose against City, but in football, you never know. We have the confidence to do well but also if we do lose, our target is not going to change. We have time to reach the target next month.”

At the end of the day, we all know that no matter what happens, Carlo will always keep his cool.
