Regarding Manchester City’s most pressing issue at the moment, Pep Guardiola decided to take full responsibility for it today.

It’s true folks, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City is nowhere near the goal count they had from previous seasons. Contrary to other years, this team is seriously lacking in those departments for various reasons. Their 2-0 defeat against Tottenham was an eye-opener for all the supporters who blindly trusted what they could do.

The reality is that this Man City side needs to improve a great deal on scoring goals. Perhaps a reason they aren’t as prolific is due to Sergio Aguero’s constant injuries or Gabriel Jesus’ low form. But Guardiola doesn’t want his players to feel this pressure and he is doing what any good manager would do.

Instead of giving all the attention to his players, he is taking all the blame for today’s lack of good results. In any manager’s cycle, there comes a time in which he needs to protect the players when they are down.

Pep’s defense to his players from critics.

Ahead of Manchester City’s trip to Greece for the Champions League, Pep spoke to The Guardian about his players. “The players are so brave,” he said. “The reason [for this] is the manager – I have to find a way, use their qualities and adapt. I have to adjust something, to let them feel we can create more. It’s in my hands to help.

“We know we are a team who last season scored a lot but now we are struggling. We have to find solutions. We have the players to find the right way to attack more fluently and I have the feeling we can score goals. The way we play is quite good, I’m quite happy. Sometimes we need clear chances to score.

“But the moment we break one or two of these kinds of things we will get better. The season is still young and I’m fully optimistic we are going to have a good season.”
