City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed the possible timeline he expects Sergio Aguero to return on the pitch and back in action.
Sergio Aguero has missed the last two games for Manchester City but Pep Guardiola says the forward is close to a return soon.
Injuries have plagued the 32-year-old this term and it is already the second time he is returning to the treatment table.
Aguero suffered a recent hamstring strain against West Ham in October and subsequently missed City’s games against Marseille and Sheffield United.
Up next for the Citizens in the League is a crunch test against reigning champions Liverpool at the Etihad on Sunday.
Reports have claimed City could rush Aguero to be fit in time to feature in that game but Guardiola insists they would rather take caution with the forward.
The City boss now expects the Argentine forward to miss the Liverpool game and return after the international break.
“I feel sure after the international break he will be better,” he said as per the club’s social channel.
“He’s getting better but I don’t know. We don’t want him to have a setback but he’s getting better.”
City take on Olympiakos next in the Champions League and Guardiola insists no opponent can be taken lightly at all.
“Qualifying is most important. We won the first two games. Porto was difficult and Marseille we handled so well and was in control. Now we have Olympiakos and we can leave them behind us and this is the target. We are going to try”
