After getting a fresh victory against Leicester City, Pep Guardiola explained the reason his players are keeping their top level.

Pep Guardiola’s Man City just defeated Leicester City 2-0 at King Power Stadium. This was the first match after the international break for both sides. Even though every club dreads this time of the year due to injuries, it appears the Citizens haven’t been affected by the break so far. Throughout the 90 minutes, they dominated with no opposition against the Foxes in order to continue their firm pace towards a new Premier League title.

Man City will be one of the few football clubs where the players keep that competitive spirit this season. Apart from the reason Pep offered to explain this, they also know this season can become something quite special for them in all tournaments. Today, they proved they are willing to put everything on the line for the sake of getting silverware.

Pep knows his players trust him.

In a statement picked up by Sky Sports, this is what Guardiola said: “They are an incredible team. We suffered at home against them but we are more patient and it is a big step to winning the Premier League. You never know after an international break but I trust my players. The players don’t always believe me but I like every one of them. Today I trust some of my players who haven’t played for a while. When you are winning, winning, the guys who play know they have to play good to play again.

“There is good solidarity between the players. The Premier League is the nicest competition [to win]; it is 11 months and it is so tough. We are close. We need three more wins. Sergio Aguero is fine; his knee is perfect. He needs the rhythm of games but we need players fresh. I am delighted with the way he trained this week, nothing is going to change. Maybe one day we will need the one goal to win something and he will be there.”
