After the news of Joan Laporta winning the presidency at Barcelona broke, Pep Guardiola reacted with the English media to his victory.

Pep Guardiola only has great memories about his time under Joan Laporta as FC Barcelona’s president. He is the man who gave Pep his first chance to become a professional manager without having any experience. Very few club presidents have the courage to make that decision and Joan was brave enough to do it. Even though the first few matches didn’t get the best results, the president always kept his trust in Pep Guardiola.

We all know what happened next. Probably the single most impressive debut season for any manager in football history. After that, a second Champions League in 2011 that was just as dominant as the first one. You could say that Pep keeps fond memories of the current Barcelona president from more than a decade ago. When the news of his victory broke, Pep quickly congratulated him on social media and he spoke to the press today.

Can Guardiola return to Barcelona?

When Pep Guardiola left FC Barcelona, there was a different president who didn’t see eye to eye with him. Laporta had to step down due to accusations against him an Pep was completely on his own. You see, FC Barcelona is very much like a small country in regards to the way they elect their leaders. There is always a democratic process that picks one side or the other through elections. Guardiola is on Laporta’s side an the other side got into power right before leaving.

Now that his friend is back, there’s a real possibility Pep can someday return to the club in some capacity. For now, he said the following about Laporta’s win via Marca: “All I can say is that it was a lovely journey,” said Guardiola when he was asked about Barca’s election. “All three options were there, they did a good job and I congratulate the president to be elected by a big margin. “I’m pretty sure his personality will introduce a good mood, a lot of optimism in the club and all the country. “I wish him all the best for the season and the next seasons.”
